The IBPAP, in cooperation with the Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC) of the Department of Labor and Employment, organized a Refresher Course on General Labor Standards (GLS) for its members during the first quarter of the year at the F1 Hotel in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.  The session featured a GLS subject matter expert from the BWC, Ms. Dianne Lyneth Alavado.  Ms. Alavado is a Labor and Employment Officer under the Policy and Program Development Division of the BWC.   

During the refresher course, Ms. Alavado covered the Labor Law Compliance System (LLCS), workers’ rights pertaining to wages and other monetary benefits, pay on regular holidays and special days, 13thmonth, separation and retirement pays, overtime and night differentials as well as prohibitions on wage and wage deductions.  Ms. Alavado also discussed hours of work, meal and rest periods, flexible working arrangements, leave incentives such as maternity, paternity, solo parent, and similar incentives for women and victims of violence against women and children (VAWC).  In addition to these statutory pay and incentive requirements, the laws on subcontracting and contracting arrangements, better known as D.O. 18-A, were extensively discussed.
